Back by popular demand…but with a bit of a different hat. I was out if many ingredients, so I threw together what I had, and voila, turns out this one’s a keeper!
I think the best protein bars have half natural peanut butter and half almond butter, so feel free to split up the butters–I think that’s the best and tastiest variation. That being said, I didn’t have peanut butter when I made these, so it’s all almond butter. And i didn’t have another staple ingred–honey, and I like this variation better than honey! Really good either way.
the goods (makes an 8×8)
1 1/4 c almond butter (or split half pb, half ab)
1/2 c. Agave nectar
1/2 c. Pure maple syrup (barely peeking out from the pic below)
1 c. Vanilla protein powder
1/4 c. Cocoa
(**if you have chocolate protein powder, omit the cocoa and the vanilla, and instead add 1 1/4 c choc protein powder)
1 1/2 c oats
1/4 c. Pecans, chopped
2 T. Wheat bran
2 T. Flaxseed
Grab a small saucepan, and melt on medium low the butter, agave, and maple syrup. Stir it up. Then add the protein and cocoa.
Take off stove. Add the rest of the ingreds: oats, pecans, bran and flax. Stir it up.
I prefer to line my pan with parchment, but I was out of that too! So lightly spray the pan, and press the mix in.
Cut into bars, and store in an airtight container. Enjoy!!
